Can you believe that 2016 is already coming to a close? I don’t know about you, but I was really excited for 2016. Unfortunately, I ended up burning out pretty badly in the beginning of the year and had to spend much of it recovering. It was such a bummer, because I had such high hopes for 2016. Maybe you feel the same way about this year?

Without the help of this ritual that I’m about to share, I wouldn’t have seen all the positive life-changing lessons I learned. I may have still held onto some of the sadness that was generated when I got sick and didn’t feel like myself. Doing this ritual really changed my perspective and made me realize how important burning out was on my path to becoming the best version of myself.

Regardless of how you felt about this past year (good or bad), I know you’ll experience a huge shift in how you view it by doing this exercise. After I did it, my energy levels went up and stayed up. It was like I was able to extract the good parts of what happened this year and let go of everything else. Are you ready to do the same? I recommend doing this exercise on paper (versus the computer).

Step #1: Set aside some uninterrupted time for you. I suggest around 45 minutes to an hour.

Step #2: Grab your favorite beverage that helps you feel cozy and grounded. Whether that be tea, coffee, juice, etc.

Step #3: Sit down in a space that has no distractions. Shut down your phone, computer, etc.

Step #4: Spend five minutes silently meditating. Pray that this journaling session takes place for your highest and greatest good and that your energy is shifted exactly where it needs to be by the end of it.

Step #5: Start by reflecting on what you created and manifested in your life this year. Go month-by-month through January all the way to December and ask yourself what you created for yourself. This can include projects, work wins, characteristics that were developed, etc.

Step #6: Think about what it took to create and manifest what you did this year. What skills did you need? What mindset did you have? What empowered you to create these things in your life?

Step #7: Reflect on what you wanted to create and manifest this year, but didn’t. Why do you think these things didn’t manifest? Was it because you didn’t make it a priority? Did something unexpected happen that got in the way of it? Did the busyness of day-to-day life get in the way?

Step #8: Reflect on what you’re biggest challenges were this year. What got in the way of achieving what you desired the most? Why do you think that is? How can you make sure it doesn’t hold you back next year?

Step #9: Reflect on the lessons you learned. What did you learn that fundamentally changed who you are and how you are going to be in the future? How did this year change you based on what you learned?

Step #10: Reflect on when you were the happiest this year. What made that possible?

Step #11: Reflect on what you are most grateful for this year. Who and what do you need to thank? Optionally, you can write some thank you notes to those you love most…including yourself ;)

Step #12: Surrender this year to The Universe by saying, “Thank you, Universe, for 2016. I release any old energies from this year that are no longer serving me and call in the positive ones that will empower me in 2017. Amen.”
